Universal half-price public transport in the country's capital will come to an end next month.
Wellingtonians have been enjoying cheaper fares for longer than the rest of the country due to a "systems" issue at the council.
The government promised kids would ride free - and those under 25 years old half price - in Budget 2023.
This scheme kicked in on 1 July, replacing universal half price fares everywhere except Wellington.
The plan hit a snag in the capital as its regional council didn't have an age verification system to determine who rides free, half-price and full-price.
The council eventually voted to extend the due-to-expire half-price transport for everyone until the issue was resolved.
Transport committee chairperson Thomas Nash told RNZ a system is now ready to go, though it won't kick in until 1 September.
Public transport users will be able to register their Snapper card with their age from next week, he said.
From that date, many bus and train users accustomed to cheaper fares will revert back to paying full price.
