Auckland police have set up an online portal to help with their investigation into the death of Charles Pongi last month.

The 32-year-old was shot during a fight between two gangs in Point England on 5 August.

They launched the site as part of Operation Pastel, an ongoing appeal for photos or video.

Detective Inspector Glenn Baldwin said they were making good progress, and were working through a significant amount of material.

"This was an appalling display of violence by gang members," he said on Friday.

"There are people in the community that have direct knowledge of the individuals that are involved, and I urge them to do the right thing. Contact the Police and nominate suspects, albeit anonymously."

The secure portal can be found here.

Information can also be provided anonymously through Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111, or by contacting police on 105 and quoting the file number 230805/0100.

Pongi was buried 19 August, his funeral - attended by motorcycle-riding gang members - sparking an increased police presence in Ellerslie, Onehunga and Papatoetoe. Three people were arrested.

Labour earlier this month promised a crackdown on gang convoys.
