Gang member charged after serious assault in Hawke's Bay on New Year's Day

A gang member has been charged after a serious assault at Māhia in Hawke's Bay on New Year's Day.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Moorhouse said the arrest was made after police searched a property on Apatu Street in Wairoa on Tuesday morning.

A patched member of the Mongrel Mob Barbarians MC was arrested, he said.

The 29-year-old faces several charges relating to the assault, as well as one for methamphetamine found at the property.

A 25-year-old woman has been jointly charged with possession of methamphetamine for supply.

The man is to appear in Gisborne District Court on Wednesday.
