Body of man thought to have been at Dunedin house for some time

Police are continuing to investigate the sudden death of a man on Hillary Street in the north Dunedin suburb of Liberton. He was found on 29 January. Pictures taken 30 January 2024.

The body of a man found at a property in Dunedin on Monday had been there for some time.

Police were called to Hillary Street, in the suburb of Liberton, at 9am on Monday morning.

The man's death is being treated as unexplained, but police said they did not believe there was any ongoing risk to public safety.

RNZ's reporter at the scene understands the body could have been there for some time.

Residents said it's a quiet neighbourhood with young families.

The man's father, who lives in India, said he was in deep shock.

Police asked anyone with CCTV footage to come forward.

They also want to hear from anyone who saw anything suspicious on Hillary Street on Sunday or Monday.
