A man has been arrested by armed police after witnesses reported a gun being pulled out on a central Auckland street.
Multiple squads of police officers with rifles and tactical gear went into the Goodview Apartment Hotel after a gun sighting about 8am on Monday.
The standoff lasted more than two hours.
A cordon on Hobson Street between Cook Street and Union Street was lifted after three hours.

A man was taken out of the hotel in handcuffs and put into a police car just before 10.30am.
Police also escorted a woman away from the scene.
In a statement police said two people were speaking with officers and there was no further risk to the public.
Charges were being considered.
A witness told RNZ he saw two people arguing on the street. Soon after one of the pair "got up, put his hand in his pocket, pulled out a gun and loaded it and pointed it at him and said he's going to shoot him".

A man living at a backpacker's next door said he was not worried about seeing armed police.
"It's part of Auckland. There's a lot of this around here, a lot of police. I wouldn't say armed offenders is normal, but the police is normal."
No injuries have been reported.
Auckland Transport said the closure of Hobston Street between Cook and Union streets, during the incident, affected multiple bus routes.
