A person has been found dead after a house fire north of Waipara in Canterbury's Hurunui District.
Emergency services responded to the Karaka Road property on State Highway 7 about 10.50pm on Friday, police said.
A person was found dead at the scene.
The highway was closed as firefighters worked on the blaze, which was brought under control.
A scene guard was posted to the scene overnight.
Police and fire investigators will be at the house on Saturday to look into what caused the fire.
