A 56-year-old man has been arrested after a school girl was allegedly approached by a man in Titirangi on 19 March.

The man was taken into custody at the weekend and charged with assaulting a female.

Detective Senior Sergeant Megan Goldie said police believed there had been similar approaches in the West Auckland area over the past several months.

Anyone with information about these incidents were asked to contact police.

Information from the public about a vehicle of interest led to the arrest.

"I would like to thank this person, and others in the community for the information they provided police in this investigation."

The man is due to appear in the Waitākere District Court on 5 April.

Further charges would not be ruled out.
