Second man accused of Ellerslie murder named

The name of the second person charged with murdering an Ellerslie couple can now be revealed.

Lok Fung Lorrence Li, 26, is facing charges alongside Shu Man Poon, 42, for https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/502200/ellerslie-murders-female-victim-died-from-blunt-force-injuries-to-her-head-police the killing] of Joseph Kwok and his wife Mei Han Chong at their home in November 2023.

The pair appeared at the High Court in Auckland on Tuesday where Li's counsel indicated he did not want to reapply for the name suppression.

Meanwhile, Poon was refused extended name suppression in March.

Their trial is expected to begin in April 2025.

Additional charges have been filed against Li and Poon for conspiring to murder another person, in a separate incident.

Joseph Kwok and Mei Han Chong moved to New Zealand from Hong Kong in 1988. They are survived by a son.

Chong had been a nurse before becoming a midwife.

Kwok worked as a theatre nurse at North Shore Hospital.
