A mother charged with failing to protect her two young children has been granted bail in order to attend a family group conference.

The siblings, aged four and five, were taken to hospital on 8 March with serious injuries, including brain bleeds, broken bones and internal injuries.

The 25-year-old woman, who has name suppression, appeared in the Hutt Valley District Court on Monday afternoon, seeking bail to attend the conference.

Judge Mary O'Dwyer granted the bail to attend, but with strict conditions.

It was approved by police and not opposed by the Crown.

Previously, the woman and a 25-year-old man had been charged with a range of offences including wounding, failing to protect children under 18, along with obstruction of justice, ill treating an animal, and drugs charges.

Both have entered not guilty pleas.

They elected trial by jury.
