A commercial fishing vessel has run aground in the Hauraki Gulf this morning.

The Japanese-owned Chokyu Maru No 68 was carrying 27 crew members and was bound for Auckland before it got into trouble, AT spokesperson Michael Curreen said.

All crew were safe, and two tug boats were on their way to remove the vessel - likely to happen about 1.30pm during high tide, he said.

Curreen said there were no reports of an oil spill.

The Harbourmaster confirmed the incident happened at 3.40am at The Noises - a group of islands in the Hauraki Gulf .

Police were notified at about 5.30am.

There were no reports of injury, police said.

Thomson Towboats and the Coastguard were arranging the recovery of the boat back to port, Ports of Auckland spokesperson Julie Wagener said.

The boat was not fishing in the area and was due to come into Auckland for a resupply, she said.
