Live: Chris Hipkins to become New Zealand's 41st prime minister

Labour confirmed Chris Hipkins as the party's new leader and New Zealand's 41st Prime Minister and MP for Kelston and Cabinet minister Carmel Sepuloni has been appointed deputy prime minister.

Labour MPs wrapped up their leadership caucus meeting in less than an hour this afternoon, with Kelvin Davis keeping the position of deputy Labour Party leader.

Hipkins was the sole nominee to replace Jacinda Ardern, following her shock resignation.
