The big Pasifika Festival looks set to return to Auckland's Western Springs Park next year, after a biosecurity outbreak forced it out at short notice.
The Queensland fruit fly discovery saw the park included in the exlusion zone this year, so the festival was moved to Hayman Park.
Now, Auckland Council's event organisation has recommended it go back to its long-time home at Western Springs.
The council said the central Auckland venue would provide better exposure of Pasifika culture to a wider audience, better site layout and better stall sales.
Local board member Fa'anana Efeso Collins had been asking for Pasifika to remain in South Auckland.
Mr Collins said, while he would have liked to see Pasifika stay there, he now wants to make sure Pacific Island communities have a say in its future direction.
