DHB to take pulse on finances

10:12 am on 15 October 2015

The Canterbury District Health Board will be briefed on its financial situation by an independent reviewer at its monthly meeting today.

The Ministry of Health announced a review of the board's finances in June, due to Heath Minister Jonathan Coleman's concerns about a forecast $18 million deficit for the current financial year.

At the time, Dr Coleman said although the board had a rapidly growing deficit, a commissioner would not be appointed.

Earlier in June, the Southern District Health Board had one appointed because of its poor financial performance.

The consultancy PwC has been reviewing the Canterbury board's financial and planning decisions, and the board is to be briefed on its findings to date.
