Warriors look for redemption

6:10 pm on 16 May 2017

The Warriors have lost three players to injury as they try and redeem themselves when they play the St George-Illawarra Dragons in Hamilton on Friday night.

Wing Manu Vatuvei, centre Solomone Kata and forward Simon Mannering will all miss the match as the Warriors try and recover from the embarassing loss to Penrith last round when they led by 22 points at halftime only to lose 36-28.

Mannering and Kata are recovering from hamstring injuries while Vatuvei has a calf injury.

Ben Matulino has copped a thee match ban for a shoulder charge.

The match will see Ben Matulino becomes just the fourth player to make 200 NRL appearances for the Warriors.

Matulino, 28, follows Stacey Jones and team-mates Mannering and Vatuvei in joining the club's 200-game club.

Matulino has again been named on the bench as he prepares to add a significant achievement to a career which has so far seen him play a total of almost 9100 minutes, make more than 20,000 metres from almost 2300 runs (averaging 100.9 metres a game) and more than 4110 tackles (averaging 20.7 a game).

Last year at home against the Dragons, the Warriors won 26-10 at Mount Smart Stadium, to end a run of 11 consecutive losses to dating back to 2008.

The Dragons have a 20-5 winning advantage in 25 encounters with the Warriors and sit fifth on the NRL table with six win from ten games while the Warriors sit in 12th spot with only four wins.
