In a statement to MMA Fighting, Adesanya's manager said the matter had been dismissed and the UFC star was on his way home.

The arrest happened as he went through pre-flight screening when airport security noticed a pair of brass knuckles in his luggage, which are illegal to possess in the state of New York.

Adesanya's manager, Tim Simpson, said in his statement that Adesanya was handed a gift by a fan, which he put in his luggage.

"When flagged at the airport, Israel quickly disposed of the item and cooperated with authorities.

"He has complied accordingly. With that, the matter was dismissed and he is on his way home."

The incident comes in the wake of UFC 281 on Sunday (NZ time), where Adesanya lost his world middleweight title.

The defeat ended his title reign of more than three years.

It was also just the second loss of his 25-fight professional MMA career, and first in the middleweight division.
