New Zealand NBA basketballer Steven Adams will miss the rest of the regular season because of injury.

The Memphis Grizzlies announced that the center had received stem cell injections in his injured right knee.

He will be re-evaluated in four weeks time, meaning he'll miss the rest of the regular season at least.

The regular season ends April 9th.

Memphis is currently the third seed in the Western Conference and has lost three games in a row.

Adams hasn't played since Jan. 22, when he strained his PCL in a loss to Phoenix.

It piles on to the woes in Memphis with Ja Morant still suspended for his off-court hijinks and Brandon Clarke was lost for the season to an Achilles injury.

Adams, 29, is averaging 8.6 points and 11.5 rebounds in 42 starts this season, his second in Memphis.

He has career averages of 9.2 points and 8.2 rebounds in nine-plus seasons with the Oklahoma City Thunder, New Orleans Pelicans and Grizzlies.

The nine-year veteran leads the NBA in offensive rebounds after leading the league in that category last season. He's a key reason why the Grizzlies rank second in that category behind only the Knicks this season.
