New Zealand's Aaron Gate has proven his versatility once again with victory in the omnium at the Nations Cup track cycling meet in Hong Kong.
The New Zealand team clinched three more medals on the second day of the meet in which riders are seeking points to qualify for the world championships and the Paris Olympic Games.
The women's team pursuit clinched gold on Saturday and Gate matched that with a narrow victory in the four-discipline event.
Gate started strongly with fourth in the scratch race and second in the tempo race but made he made a mistake to be the first rider out in the elimination race, which would normally spell the end to any overall hopes in the omnium.
However, Gate then went on to amass a remarkable 71 in the points race, including 60 bonus points for lapping the field three times, to claim overall honours by a single point.
The pairing of Bryony Botha and Emily Shearman - half of the victorious team pursuit quartet - earned silver in the two-rider, 120-lap madison, having been pipped for gold by a single point by Japan.
Sam Dakin produced his Nations Cup result, winning bronze in the men's keirin competition.
The competition finishes on Monday.
