Breaking down beats with Estère

From co-fronting jazz/funk/soul big band Brockaflower and singing alone on stage with her guitar, Wellington-based musician Estere has ploughed head first into the beatmaking world.

Music 101’s Melody Thomas visits the place she makes her music – her bedroom – to find out more about her creative process, use of machines and what it’s like being female in the male-dominated world of music production.

In a segment on music and technology, Melody also looks at the Shazam Effect, and talks to blogger, media commentator and early adopter Russell Brown on navigating the sea of music streaming, downloading and purchasing platforms.
