All around the world, a truce is being called in the decades-long war on drugs. But still, in Aotearoa, cannabis is illegal and thousands of people are convicted every year for low-level drug crimes.

Espiner asks why the world is passing New Zealand by in changing its approach to drug use. And he investigates the waste of money, lives and wellbeing that continues to mount as a result.
