Tanker with 900,000 litres of oil hijacked off Malaysia

A Malaysian oil tanker carrying 900,000 litres of diesel has been hijacked and taken to Indonesian waters, Malaysian maritime officials say.

TheVier Harmoni was reportedly sailing from Tanjung Pelepas port in Malaysia on Monday when it was seized.

The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency's director tweeted that the ship was now believed to be off the Indonesian island of Batam.

Its cargo was reportedly worth about 1.57m ringgit ($NZ541,000)

The identity of the hijackers was not yet known.
