An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 struck east of Japan's island of Honshu on Thursday, the United States Geological Service says.

The quake was reported to have struck in the ocean, 144 km northeast of the coastal city of Miyako.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the quake, at a depth of 12.2km, revised reports from USGS said.
