Here's what's making news headlines around the world today.

Trump visits shooting victims amid protests

US president Donald Trump has met victims and first responders from last weekend's deadly shootings in El Paso and Dayton as chanting protesters accused him of inflaming tensions with anti-immigrant and racially-charged rhetoric.

A total of 31 people were killed in the shootings.

The President visited hospitals where survivors were treated.

In both cities, crowds of protesters gathered to confront Mr Trump and condemn his visit.

Bodies found in Canadian manhunt

Canadian police have found what they believe to be the bodies of two teenagers suspected of three murders.

Kam McLeod, 19, and Bryer Schmegelsky, 18, have been on the run since late July when three bodies, including those of an Australian-US couple, were found in northern British Columbia.

The teenagers were later seen three thousand kilometres away in Manitoba where a large scale manhunt was mounted.

The two bodies were found near the town of Gillam and have been sent for post-mortems to confirm their identities.

Kashmir remains in lockdown as Pakistan vents anger

Indian administered Kashmir remains on lockdown for a third day with a total media and telecommunications blackout.

Thousands of troops are on the streets as the Indian authorities try to strengthen their grip after stripping the region of its constitutionally guaranteed special status.

Pakistan has reacted furiously to the decision and is planning to expel India's ambassador and suspend bilateral trade with India.

Quake hits Taiwan killing one

One person has been killed and other injured after a magnitude 6 quake shook Taiwan earlier today.

The quake's epicentre was about 36 kilometres east of the eastern city of Yilan.

Authorities say it was felt across the island.

The quake caused power cuts and residents in the capital, Taipei, reported being woken by falling objects and furniture in their homes.

New governor for Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico's Justice Secretary Wanda Vázquez has been sworn in as the US territory's new governor, hours after her predecessor was forced to stand down by the Supreme Court.

She is the third politician to occupy the post in less than a week.

Ricardo Rossello resigned last week, after street protests prompted by the leak of offensive messages.

His replacement, Pedro Pierluisi, was removed by the Supreme Court on constitutional grounds after five days.

Vodka - Chernobyl style

Scientists have made the first consumer product using ingredients from inside the Chernobyl exclusion zone in Ukraine.

They've made vodka using rye grains and water from an aquifer within the abandoned area around the damaged nuclear power plant.

Tests show the distilled spirit, called Atomik, is free from contamination.

They hope to use profits from selling it to help communities still affected by the economic impact of the disaster.
