Jacques Ibert (1890-1962) was a French composer who studied at the Paris Conservatoire with Gabriel Fauré. This concerto was written in 1934 and was premièred by the great French flautist Marcel Moyse. It is classical in structure with three contrasting movements and the music is often described as 'witty and brilliant'.
