Members of the NZSO are performing music from the baroque at the moment; their concert La Notte, or The Night, focusses on Corelli, Telemann and Vivaldi.
Soloist in Vivaldi’s La Notte is flutist Bridget Douglas – we thought it might be nice to bring her in to the studio and play us some favourite pieces of music.
Shostakovich’s Symphony No 10 in E Minor
“[This is] the piece of music that made me want to be a professional orchestral musician,” she says. “This is what I played for my first NZSO NYO experience.”

“Closely followed by 7, 3, 5 and all the others. I am really looking forward to the NZSO's Beethoven Festival in August,” she says. “It's the ultimate musical journey to play or listen to all of Beethoven's masterful Symphonies in three days straight.”
Vivaldi’s Flute Concerto ‘La Notte’
“I always love what I'm about to perform. I have to completely immerse myself in the music and live with it intensely for the preparation and concert period,” she says. “And even though it's over-played there's a reason why 'The Four Seasons' is the most famous piece ever...Vivaldi was awesome.”
