Depeche de Tahiti daily newspaper clears court hurdle

The commercial court in French Polynesia has approved the rescue plan for La Depeche de Tahiti newspaper.

The paper's parent company, which was placed in receivership last year, tabled a plan that has now been cleared by all parties concerned.

La Depeche has been the only local daily newspaper for sale since 2014 when the territory's oldest newspaper Nouvelles de Tahiti ceased publication after 57 years.

La Depeche, which was established in 1964, lost its own printing shop last year when it was liquidated following prolonged financial difficulties.

The business also publishes three magazines Tiki Mag, Fenua'Orama and Maisons du fenua
