ADB board meets in Fiji, a Pacific first

Fiji is the first Pacific country to host an Asian Development Bank Board of Governors meeting.

About 3000 delegates have been in Nadi for the 52nd ADB annual gathering. 

Finance ministers, central bank governors, government and private sector representatives from Asia, the Pacific and beyond will discuss various development priorities.

The bank has announced two major initiatives including a $US13.5 million trust fund with the Irish government aimed at helping the Pacific with climate and disaster management.

A US$5-billion healthy oceans initiative aimed as sustainable marine management was launched on Thursday.

This year's theme is "Prosperity Through Unity" and the Secretary of the bank, Eugene Zhukov told Dominic Godfrey about its significance for the Pacific.
