There are hopes that a new managing director, appointed to head the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, will restore the company's commitment to Pacific broadcasting and news coverage.

In recent years the ABC has progressively cut back its Pacific services, including ending broadcasts by shortwave.

But a group called the Supporters of Australian Broadcasting in Asia and the Pacific hope this will now change.

Its spokesperson Sue Ahearn talked with Don Wiseman about the potential impact of David Anderson's appointment.
