A bid by a New Zealand consortium to build French Polynesia's biggest tourism complex has failed.

The consortium Kaitiaki Tagaloa was in line to build the first section of the Tahitian Village but it missed three deadlines to finalise the contracts worth $US700 million.

Walter Zweifel has been following the story and Don Wiseman asked him first how significant this project is.
