Top Fiji surgeon calls for diabetes action

The Professor of Surgery at Fiji's National University says diabetes related amputations account for 40 percent of all hospital operations.

Professor Eddie McCaig says half the estimated 60,000 people with diabetes do not even realise they have the illness, ignoring early signs like thirst and excessive urination.

He told Jenny Meyer that surgeons regularly have to remove limbs to save lives.
