Bougainville referendum enters final stages

From , 5:02 am on 10 December 2019

The scrutiny of ballots used in Bougainville's historic independence vote is underway in Buka.

The scrutiny process, which culminates in the vote count, follows on from the end of polling in the autonomous Papua New Guinea region's non-binding referendum.

The long-anticipated referendum is the ultimate provision of 2001's Bougainville Peace Agreement which followed a brutal, protracted civil war.

Johnny Blades has been covering the referendum and gave us an update about where things are at.
