Project aims to boost Pasifika players in rugby leadership

A lack of understanding around Pacific Island culture and values and a fear of failure have been identified as key barriers preventing more Pasifika players becoming involved in rugby leadership in New Zealand.

The findings came out of the Navigating Two Worlds project, which stemmed from AUT University research in 2016, after staff at Auckland and New Zealand Rugby noticed a disparity between the number of Pasifika rugby players and those involved in non-playing roles at the grassroots level in Auckland.
