Protest calls for release of refugees from Australian hotels

From , 5:04 am on 4 March 2020

Hundreds of people have protested the indefinite detention of refugees from Papua New Guinea and Nauru in Australian hotels.

Transferred for medical treatment, about 150 refugees have been locked up in two hotels in Melbourne and Brisbane, many for more than six months.

On Saturday, protesters gathered outside the hotels calling for them to be released into the community.

Protest organiser Chris Breen says some of the refugees have received insufficient or no healthcare in Australia.
