New Caledonia narrowly votes to remain with France

The people of New Caledonia have narrowly rejected independence from France in the second referendum in two years. 

The territory voted to remain with 53.26 percent of the vote. 

But the yes vote was significantly improved on 2018 -  laying the foundations for what will likely be a third and final referendum in two years time.
