The Tongan 'Ikale Tahi rugby team meets Australia A in their first Rugby World Cup warm-up game on Friday.

It's a game that will give head coach Toutau Kefu the opportunity to see first hand what his players can do before they get into the Pacific Nations Cup series on July 22.

Coach Toutau Kefu and his players have had a disrupted camp in Tonga, because flights from Europe for some players did not happen until July 10 - nine days after the camp started in Nuku'alofa.

But despite that he is keen to see his players on the field.

Kefu has named former Wallaby Israel Folau and former All Blacks trio Malakai Fekitoa, Charles Piutau and Vaea Fifita in his starting lineup.

The Australia A side arrived in Nuku'alofa on Wednesday, with Wallaby prop Taniela Tupou among them.

Friday's rugby clash at Te'ufaiva Stadium is part of the 50th anniversary of Tonga defeating the Wallabies in 1973, and the 100th birthday of the Tonga Rugby Union.

RNZ senior sports journalist Iliesa Tora spoke with Kefu on the 'Ikale Tahi's preparations.
