Critter of the Week The Native landhopper

From Afternoons, 3:35 pm on 2 July 2021

Have you ever noticed the little translucent critters that leap about when you disturb sand at the beach?

The native landhopper, Makawe hurleyi, sometimes called ‘lawn shrimp’, is the land-lubbing version of the beach hopper.

A true ‘litter-critter’, it spends its short but important life munching detritus in our grasslands and forests.
