Acclaimed and talented local artist Benee has just released her latest EP Lychee.

She joins Jesse to talk about her latest work and if there are any plans for her to reschedule her cancelled New Zealand leg of her international tour.

This audio is not downloadable due to copyright restrictions.

Asked how she hit on the name on the EP's name, Lychee, Benee says she often finds it difficult to come up with a suitable name so decided to play its safe with the name of a fruit.

The EP project started in Aotearoa alongside her producer, Josh, and three tracks were recorded.

However, Benee says she felt a bit stale and wanted a new space so she headed to Los Angeles where recording continued working with three new producers.

"I was really wanting to be quite experimental with this one and let loose with my writing."

Working with different producers in a new environment was stimulating, she says, especially after two years in New Zealand.

"It was this huge thing to absorb and I felt inspired."

A planned tour of New Zealand has been cancelled, however, she is off soon to tour Australia, followed by concert dates in the UK and Europe and finishing in the US.

She is unsure when the New Zealand leg of the tour will go ahead, so in the meantime, fans will have to make do with the new EP including the track featured today - 'Never-ending'.
