Gun buyback to continue, despite privacy breach - police

From Checkpoint, 6:08 pm on 2 December 2019

The police say the government's gun buyback programme will continue - despite a privacy breach being blamed on a software update.

Police have shut down the gun buyback website after being alerted to the breach.

The Council of Licensed Firearms Owners claims the full details of banned firearms and their location had been available online to the public.

But Police Minister Stuart Nash says that's not the case, and only approved firearms dealers had been able to access the information.

Police deputy commissioner Mike Clement talks to Lisa Owen.
