Brisbane community holds vigil for Whakaari eruption victims

From Checkpoint, 5:51 pm on 16 December 2019

A Brisbane community has held an emotional candle lit vigil for a mother and daughter who were the first Australian victims to be named after the Whakaari eruption.

Julie Richards and her 20-year-old daughter Jessica had planned to climb the volcano a few years earlier but that tour was cancelled.

Brisbane councillor, Angela Owen is from the same Calamvale community as Julie and Jessica, and was at the service held in the local park where the mother and daughter would often visit.
