A new poll and photo revelations - political analysis

From Checkpoint, 6:08 pm on 13 February 2020

Deputy Prime Minister and NZ First Leader Winston Peters says he was involved in having a photograph taken of two journalists and former NZ First President Lester Gray.

The photographs were posted on a website which has been running stories defending NZ First whilst criticising stories about NZ First Foundation donations.

The photographs were raised in an interview with Peter Williams on Magic Talk Radio and it was in that interview that Mr Peters said: "We took the photographs."

When contacted by Checkpoint Mr Peters was about to board a plane and was unavailable for an interview. He told us he did not personally take the photos.

Checkpoint asked him what he was referring to when he said "we took the photos".

He refused to answer and the conversation ended. It comes as a One News Colmar Brunton poll showing NZ First in dire straits with National at 46 percent, Labour at 41 percent, the Greens at 5 percent, ACT at 2 percent and NZ First at 3 percent.

That would mean National could govern with ACT and scrape in with 61 seats. It would see NZ First gone.

Former United Future leader Peter Dunne joins Lisa Owen to discuss the issues.
