Southland farmer touring NZ to teach about Islam

From Checkpoint, 6:25 pm on 6 March 2020

A Southland farmer and imam is part of a road trip from Auckland to Christchurch to talk about Islam and honour those who died in the mosque killings.

Reza-Abdul Jabbar owns a dairy farm near Mokotua in Southland and is the Imam at the Invercargill mosque.

He is part of a group that set up the Murihiku Islamic Trust to talk about Islam and they have set out on a Kotahitanga Togetherness tour.

Reza headed to Christchurch to help the Muslim community after the attacks. He says the Trust was born out of those days.

Cosmo Kentish-Barnes caught up with him on his dairy farm before he left and he began by asking him about the aftermath of the attacks.

On Saturday Reza and his team are holding an event in the Wellington suburb of Johnsonville before heading to the top of the South Island and on down to Christchurch.
