Some Auckland businesses appear to have all but given up trading next to disruptive city rail link works in the inner city.

Last week, the Victoria St-Albert St intersection in the centre of the city was closed to vehicle traffic for two years, those works effectively cutting off dozens more businesses from street view.

Transport Minister Michael Wood says he is continuing to work through the issue of compensation with officials.

Heart of the City has proposed a $50 million compensation scheme for businesses. Wood says because there is no existing model for compensation of that nature in New Zealand, the issue has to be worked through carefully.
