Healthcare students are being recruited to help take the pressure of Covid-19 testing stations that have been slammed during this Delta outbreak.

Some people faced waits of up to nine hours with queues of cars snaking for kilometres at testing sites.

More than 35,000 people were tested around the motu yesterday, 26,500 of them in Tamaki Makarau.

There's 22 community testing centres across Auckland - including a walk-in one that opened in Victoria Park.

So to help ease some of the strain the Northern Regional Health Co-ordination Centre is calling in reinforcements from four Auckland tertiary institutions.
