A New Zealand couple have been given the opportunity to bring their baby son to their new home in Australia after they were facing the possibility of being separated from him until border restrictions ease.
They got trapped in Australia when quarantine-free travel across the Tasman was stopped in June.
Daniel Small and his wife had recently moved to Melbourne when their son Alastair got sick and was hospitalised.
After he was discharged he travelled back to Auckland with his grandparents to help with his recovery, allowing his parents to move into their new home.
Checkpoint asked MBIE if Daniel could travel to New Zealand, stay at the airport and fly straight back to Melbourne with Alastair.
Joint head of MIQ, Brigadier Rose King told Checkpoint it was possible. MBIE is now working with Daniel to make it happen..
