Christchurch locals fed up with council facilities' foul stench

Fed-up Christchurch residents at their wits end fronted up to a meeting today to describe life living with the combined putrid stench from two council facilities.

Bromley residents described not being able to have friends over or have a barbeque in the backyard because of the stink.

Others broke down, saying they couldn't work or sleep as the persistent smell invades their homes.

The problem began years ago with the city's organics processing plant but has been compounded since the neighbouring wastewater plant was damaged in a fire last November.

Frustrated residents told a Council meeting today they won't go away until the stench does.

MP Tracey McLellan was at today's meeting where she called on Christchurch City Council to do the right thing. She talks to Nick Truebridge.
