There's been an unexpected up-side to the whole Covid experience, with tourists unable to visit, more New Zealanders have been taking advantage of their wonderful backyard.
DOC has released its summer visitor insights, showing that that in the last two years, three out every four New Zealanders visited outdoor conservation areas over summer.
The visitor numbers were recorded at popular sites, huts, campsites and walking tracks in the three months from December last year to the end of February this year.
