A trifle wet for truffles

The demand for a special and elusive fungus is sky-high, but wet weather is taking its toll.

Truffles are sometimes described as smelling like a well worn pair of socks and despite that they are a much sought after delicacy.

A spokesperson for the Truffle Association, Maureen Binns, grows them in Paengaroa and she's coming towards the end of her truffle harvest.

She says they're only harvesting about a third of what they would normally.
