On Country Life this week, an orchardist with a passion for a sour and prickly fruit. It's nearly yuzu harvest and Neville Chun is about to pick the first crop destined for a craft brewer. Also, a composting barn is better for cows and the land says Karamea farmer, Frano Volkman. The 6300 square metre structure being built on his dairy farm will have a thick bed of woodchip and sawdust, that will act like an electric blanket for his herd. The compost made under them will be spread onto paddocks, thus reducing the need for synthetic fertilser. Plus our monthly feature of conditions around the motu.
