A New Zealand jeweller has won big at the XIV Florence Biennale Exhibition and Awards, taking first prize for Jewellery Art and Design. Stacey Whale’s Biennale necklace, fit for a queen, is shaped like an elaborate collar and made of gold and diamonds.

“My creativity and the uniqueness of my necklace amidst such a competitive environment truly spoke volumes and was celebrated as a piece of art, and the recognition means the world to me.

The Nelson-based jeweller’s necklace selection for the awards began a crowd-funding campaign for Whale in May. Donors pledged more than $20,000 to ensure she could make it to Italy.
