On today's regional wrap we're in Blenheim or Te Waiharakeke (often translated as "The waters of Flax"). Its the largest settlement in Marlborough, top of Te Wai Pounamu.

Tyler Redmond of Blenheim was eight when he started filmmaking. Now 20, with short films, music videos and awards behind him, his ambitious 2024 short film Dive has been his way of engaging with his Marlborough community and dealing with the loss of his father, who died in a tragic racing car accident when he was only nine.

It’s a film Redmond has created over several years with the participation of the community.. He’s particularly proud of its paid involvement as cast and crew of local youth.. Dive will have its first cast and crew screening in early May.

Tyler Redmond is speaking at the Marlborough edition of the Arts Foundation’s Arts for All roadshow at Te Kahu o Waipuna - Marlborough Library and Art Gallery on Wednesday 3 April. Its a free breakfast series of local arts speakers across 10 towns and cities, from February to May in 2024.

Ten years in the making, Blenheim's new library and gallery opened in 2023.

Tyler Redmond joins Mark Amery on Culture 101 to introduce Blenheim for this week’s Regional Wrap.
