How to stay safe in a thunderstorm with lightning

Avoid showers and baths, don't worry about the washing up and ignore the landline if it rings during a thunderstorm. That's according to NIWA's principal scientist, Chris Brandalino. Much of the North Island has been hit by thunderstorms over the last two days - and there's a chance of more throughout today. So our producer Lydia Batham got the low-down on what we should and shouldn't do when there's thunder and lightning outside.
